Sharks on Wheels

About

Sharks on Wheels is a free bike rental program for NSU students created to promote outdoor physical activity and wellness. Sponsored by NSU Recreation and Wellness, and as part of the Healthy Sharks initiative, the bikes are meant to be shared.

This program starts on October 17, 2016.

The bike rental program is for NSU students only. Bikes may be checked out at no charge as often as they are available.  The Bike Rental program will operate out of the RecPlex, located at the Don Taft University Center.
Each rental will require a valid NSU Shark Card.

Faculty, staff, guests, spouses, alumni and visitors are NOT permitted to rent bicycles from the RecPlex.

Bikes are to stay on campus during rental use.

Bikes are available in conjunction with operational hours of the NSU RecPlex. All bicycles must be returned 30 minutes prior to the Recplex closing time the same day the bike is rented to avoid late fees.
There are a limited number of bikes for rental, and availability cannot be guaranteed.

During inclement weather, bike rentals will be stopped when rider safety is in jeopardy. If a staff member feels severe weather puts riders at risk, bike rentals will be stopped until the weather passes. Riders who are already out will be called on their cell phone and notified of the warning. Please check the local weather forecast before heading out to ride.

  • Rentals are equipped with a helmet and bike lock for rider safety. During the time you rent the bike, you are responsible for the bike and equipment. Please remember to lock up the bikes safely using a bike rack.
  • You will be responsible for up to a $275 replacement fee if you do not return the bike within 24 hours after the designated rental period is over, or if the bike is otherwise damaged, lost or stolen.
  • A $75 overnight fee will be assessed if the bike is returned after RecPlex closing time. Bikes must be returned and checked in to the RecPlex with an attendant.
  • Bikes left at the front without it being assessed by an attendant will be considered late/stolen and the appropriate fee will be charged.
